EASTERN MOUNTAIN TIME - by Peter Egan
On Saturday we had a big group ride up into the Smoky Mountains to a small town called Maggie Valley in North Carolina, home of the famousWheels Through Time Museum. This huge shrine to American motorcycles which is the brainchild of one Dale Walksler, who has so much energy and knowledge about old motorcycles he makes the average enthusiast feel starved for brain oxygen and low on coffee. His collection is magnificent-full of great displays and background settings for the old bikes. A must stop for anyone on a motorcycle trip in the region.

Even the French can appreciate Dale's
passion for bikes!

Here Dale is pictured in the 2005 July/August edition of Motolegende on his 1955 Harley Davidson 750 KRTT in Daytona Beach. I'd put a clip of the article in here but my French is not so good!

Honda gives Wheels Through Time a great write up!

"It's not just a museum, it's a gearhead's dream come true." says Honda RedRider magazine in it's 2004 July/August issue. It continues on to say...

According to Mirriam-Webster's Dictionary, a treasure is "a collection of precious things that is very much valued." After a day's visit to the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, it becomes clear there are two great treasures to experience - a jaw-dropping collection of 240 vintage American motorcycles and automobiles dating back to 1903, and the curator of this grand display himself, museum founder, Dale Walksler.

In February of 2004, Alan Mayes from Rider Magazine wrote:

Our visit (to WTT museum) was an extension of a few days; stay near Gatlinburg, TN. One hour on some of the best motorcycle roads in the east brought us right ot the door of the Wheels Through Time All-American Transportation Museum. Maggie Valley, nestled in the southwest corner of North Carolina, is only accessible by the dotted-line scenic roads. It is 30 minutes from Asheville, just a few miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway, at the base of the Smoky Mountains.

HogTales:The Journal of the H.O.G. Experience Print E-mail

In the July/August 2004 issue of HogTales:The Journal of the H.O.G. experience, Clement Salvadori wrote about a trip to Richmond, VA via the Blue Ridge Parkway. He writes:

Maggie Valley has about a thousand motels rooms to rent and the Wheels Through Time Museum to visit. No Harley rider should miss seeing that place. The museum has more than 200 American-built motorcycles on display but they are not necessarily shiny do-not-touch objects, as they all work. Curator Dale Walksler will cheerfully fire up a Harley-Davidson 1936 Knucklehead, Steve McQueen's 1917 military motorcycle, and Evel Knievel's 1970 H-D jump bike, as well as a Henderson Four or any number of other bikes as he shows you around. It is a great show!
