Worlds Richest Old Car Race Stops at "Wheels"
Great Racers Make Lunch Stop While Chasing $250,000 Purse
Orange, California, June 15, 2007 -- The Great Race is gearing up for a great summer! The Great Race has announced that Wheels Through Time Museum, in Maggie Valley, North Carolina will be an Official Host for Great American Race 2007. The cross-country race for classic cars, hot rods and muscle cars will celebrate its 25th Anniversary at a lunch stop at Wheels Through Time on July 1, 2007 as part of its 4,000 mile journey across the U.S.
“Wheels Through Time Museum is proud to host the Great American Race during its 25th Anniversary,” said Dale Walksler, curator of the Wheels Through Time Museum, in Maggie Valley, NC. “It truly is an All-American event and we look forward to sharing that with the residents and visitors to our area. 2007 also marks the 75th Anniversary of the Ford 1932 “Deuce”. In honor of the celebration, Great American Race 2007 has been expanded to include two special events. Deuce Week East and Deuce Week West are one week races running concurrently with Great American Race 2007 and feature ’32 Fords of all configurations as well as hot rods, street rods, muscle cars and classic of any make and era.
Great American Race, presented by Interstate Batteries, will begin on June 30, 2007 in Concord, NC and will finish two weeks later, on July 14 in Anaheim, California. A field of up to 100 classic cars, all manufactured in 1969 or earlier are eligible to compete.
 Great Race originates from the legendary “Greatest Auto Race” of 1908 that raced around the world from New York to Paris. What was originally created to provide enthusiasts an opportunity to drive their classic cars has become an American Institution, attracting competitors from all over the world. Great Racers have completed over 9,000,000 miles of the most scenic roads in North America, attracting fans of all ages to Great Race events where they meet the competitors that annually take to the highways in the ultimate automotive adventure.
Great Race will go international in 2008 when it celebrates the Centennial of the 22,000-mile “Greatest Auto Race”, an around the world race that ran from New York to Paris in 1908.
