| Great Racing Video from Davenport AMCA Swapmeet and Races! |
|
A few weeks back, team Wheels Through Time headed back to the race track, this time for the Davenport AMCA 1/2-mile dirt track races held over Labor Day Weekend. This marks 30+ years that guys and girls from around the country have taken to the 1/2-mile oval on their vintage racers. Davenport marked the second race this year that Team Wheels Through Time would be fielding a bike in the ever-popular Board Track Class. The racing this year was phenomenal, with a total of 12 riders in the class -- the earliest being a 1914 Harley-Davidson ridden by Bill Rodencal from the Harley-Davidson Museum. Each year, the laps seem to get faster and faster. Bikes were tuned to top running order, and racers put it all on the line to see who'd come up champion of this year's Board Track Class. The final race results saw Jimmy Cahlik take first on a 1928 Harley, Mike Lange in second on his 1921 HD Banjo Two-Cam, Roy Taboada in third on the 1920 "Iron Dinosaur" Harley, and myself in fourth on the WTT-prepared 1924 Harley JDCA. The field was really flying this time, and speed recordings from tuner Dave Kafton's radar gun showed straightaway speeds in excess of 75 mph! Check out the video for a great "In-the-pits View" of what makes this class of racing so exciting! If you've ever got the chance to make it to one of these meets, take advantage! It'll be an experience you won't soon forget. We've already begun preparing for next year's races, and have recently found a few goodies that'll make the old #22 racer quite a bit faster. Stay tuned to the blog for regular updates!
